The Casks
Sherry seasoning brings a unique depth of flavour to the maturation process. That’s why the majority of The Glenrothes’ whisky is matured in Sherry-seasoned oak casks, carefully produced to their exacting standards near Jerez, Spain.
Natural Colour
The colour in each and every dram of The Glenrothes is derived only from their own casks; it’s never artificially altered. This is a testament to the skill of the whisky maker’s craft, and to the natural quality of The Glenrothes’ authentic single malt.
The Water
The water sources of the Brauchhill and the Fairies Well, and are joined by the Ardcanny Spring and Dounie Well and flow to the distillery. To this day The Glenrothes is one of the few distilleries in Scotland to have its own sources of water for production, processing and spirit reduction located on the estate.
The Glenrothes 10-Year-Old
This is a perfect introduction to single malt for those keen to explore the world of whisky. Lighter and more subtle than much Scotch, this Speyside offers a nose filled with vanilla, homemade shortbread and a hint of orange peel. After 10 years in Sherry casks, the delicate palate is ever so slightly sweet with refreshing lemon peel leading on to a lingering sweet and zesty finish.
The Glenrothes 12-Year-Old
This 12-year-old Scotch is billed as the classic “house” Glenrothes style, aged only in Sherry casks. Light aromas of banana and vanilla tempt you in, while this excellent benchmark Speyside offers a palate full of more banana, lemon and fresh, juicy melon alongside a hint of sweet cinnamon. The finish is long, soft, sweet and lightly spiced.
The Glenrothes Whisky Maker’s Cut
This whisky is inspired and shaped by the hand of the Master Whisky Maker. Aged only in first-fill Sherry-seasoned casks, it is then bottled at the Whisky Maker's preferred strength. This Speyside offers aromas of resin, rich candied peel and fresh oak. The palate is rich and spicy with creamy vanilla and orange peel, building to a long, fruity finish with more orange peel and a twist of nutmeg.
The Glenrothes 18-Year-Old
This 18-year-old Speyside has delightful aromas of orange oil, vanilla pods, pear and almonds on the nose. Sweet, ginger, rose water, pears and vanilla envelop the palate with a sweet, spicy and slightly peppery finish.
The Glenrothes 25-Year-Old
Predominantly aged in first-fill Sherry-seasoned casks, this 25-year-old Speyside delivers heady cedar-wood notes alongside rich tropical fruit, mango and pineapple. The palate is layered with coriander seed, violet and a hint of salted caramel, while the sweet finish lingers long with floral and citrus notes.
The Glenrothes 40-Year-Old
Distilled in 1978 and matured in a combination of ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry casks, only 594 bottles of this exclusive Speyside have been produced. This 50-year-old single malt is exquisitely resinous and rich in sweetness’ with notes of ‘orange oil’ on the nose and ‘sultanas, cinnamon and nutmeg’ on the palate.
The Distillery
Proudly producing since 1879, The Glenrothes distillery is based right at the heart of Speyside – the source of some of Scotland’s finest single malts. Its Soleo Collection is a range of superlative whiskies matured in Sherry casks for anywhere between 10 and 25 years, resulting in a lighter, fruitier spirit that bears the distillery’s trademark spice.
Production
Slow distillation eliminates more impurities and allows for the production of a lighter and fruitier spirit, which is more delicate overall. New make spirit is carefully nurtured in tall copper stills at the distillery for longer than usual, which helps to produce a lighter, fruitier spirit that forms the signature style of The Glenrothes single malt.
